This native shrub or small multi-trunked tree is often found growing along seasonal streams or in forests of California's Northern Coastal Range and Sierras. Delicate white flowers are followed by dark blue-purple fruits coveted by many bird species. In the fall, the leaves turn a lovely butterscotch yellow, providing a touch of autumn color. Although slow-growing at first, mature plants may reach 10' - 20' tall and nearly as wide. Prefers sun to partial shade with moderate to infrequent water. Many butterflies use this species as a larval host, such as the California hairstreak and the Ceanothus silkmoth. This serviceberry accepts pruning and will do well in a large pot.
